Volunteer Positions

Volunteer Driven
The Society of Bastet is a community run organization, and as such requires volunteers to function. In addition to Board positions, and various committee positions, the SoB needs volunteers to help with the day-to-day operations. The most visible positions will be with running the weekly play parties.

If you want to volunteer for a position, please contact Mamie, either via email at volunteer@societyofbastet.com or on fetlife. Please remember to include the position and the date that you wish to volunteer.

Every society member is entitled to volunteer, and any member who does volunteer for one of the party positions will not have to pay their admission for that night. Non-members may also volunteer to work the door or other positions for special events, although they do need to be known by the community.  DMs are only those approved and qualified with training by the Board  Discounts are per-night, so if the party is slow and you end up doing multiple jobs, the discount is the same. You can sign up for duties in advance or you can take a position at the door if it is vacant.

Please keep in mind that every effort will be made to fill all position by the Friday before a party. Spreading the fun around, we may limit people to volunteering for the same position only twice a month. If the slot is free that night, we of course welcome your help. 

As a bonus, those that volunteer for DM and for the canteen will receive a complimentary pass to a free night to be used within 30 days or a one-hour private party rental within 30 days.  The volunteer must contact info@societyofbastet.com to make arrangements within the 30-day period for their private party booking.

Play Party Positions

The positions, and their duties and prerequisites are as follows: 

  • Door 
    • Time: 8 til close 
    • Prerequisites: Familiarity with Bastet's rules and methods. 
    • Duties:
  • Door and canteen money are now combined in the same tray.
  • Record all attendees in the logbook. Mark each person as, Volunteer (free), Member ($15), or Guest ($20). No IOUs. Owners of a Big Package, also get in for free (list is at the bar)
  • People who have a valid student ID will receive a $5 discount. Please indicate the discount in the logbook.
  • Check the official membership list for member’s status and remind members if their membership is up for renewal.
  • Guests are required to fill out a Guest Waiver every time they attend.
  • If a guest wishes to buy a membership ($15), have them fill out the Membership Form and have the DM or a Board Member sign it. Indicate purchase in the logbook.
  • Save all Guest and Membership Forms in the back of the logbook.
  • Record tallies in both logbook and on front of the sealed envelope, ie Play Party, Dec 10-door $150, canteen $10. Please give the envelopes to the Treasurer when present at the end of the evening.
  • Please collect garbage from all the rooms. Pop bottles and garbage bags are to be placed in the room at the bottom of the stairs.
  • Before leaving, ensure that all windows are close, lights are turned off and either heat is turned down, or AC is turned off.
  • On the way out, please make sure that the door is locked behind you.

            Full details are listed on the duties at the space, so please refer to them when you are working that evening.

  • Dungeon Monitor: 
    • Time: 8 til midnight 
    • Prerequisites: Must attend a DM training session at Bastet and do a shift as assistant DM under a qualified DM. 
    • Duties:
      • Monitoring of all play to ensure the safety of participants,
      • Responsible for stepping in should a problem arise,
      • Assisting the person on Door with cleanup and locking up at the end of the night.
      • For more information on duties, please attend a DM training night.   Information on DM training will be posted in the Announcements.

Please note that any volunteer is entitled to take a break or, if things are slow later, to engage in play. However, you must find another qualified member to temporarily fill your post while doing so.
